In recent days, intellectual property has been in the news in Argentina. The Government tried to regulate by decree the recognition of an NGO called Centro de Derechos Reprográficos de la República Argentina (CADRA) as a monopolistic entity of collective management of reprography, digital reproduction, public communication and making books available to the public throughout the country. A strong resistance from the organizations of the A2K alliance, Fundación Vía Libre and the sector of academics and librarians fighting for exceptions and limitations managed to stop the initiative, which is now on hold. The case reopened the demand for the urgent reform of the intellectual property law to protect academic, research, library and archive activity.
