In the political declaration of the high-level political forum on sustainable development convened under the auspices of the General Assembly of the United Nations, it is stated that there will be a continued increase in investment in inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. This commitment encompasses various aspects of education, including early childhood education, youth and adult literacy programs and initiatives, digital education, cultural education, education for sustainable development, digital technologies for education, skills enhancement, affordable higher education, and vocational training, along with addressing education in emergencies and supporting teachers’ continuous professional development.

The declaration underscores the recognition of the substantial benefits that early childhood education and care can offer to children. Moreover, it highlights the determination to address barriers hindering girls’ access to education, eliminate gender and disability gaps, and actively promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls within the realm of education. It is emphasized that these efforts will be carried out in safe, healthy, and stimulating learning environments that enable all learners to reach their full potential while ensuring their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Additionally, the declaration acknowledges the significance of the 2022 United Nations Transforming Education Summit.

The 2023 SDG Summit occurred on September 18-19, 2023, in New York, signifying the initiation of a fresh phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
